The key ingredients in Georgian cuisine are basically bread, tomato, herbs, walnuts and onion. We grind our own walnuts, so there can be traces of walnuts in otherwise walnut-free dishes. Almost all Georgian recipes include coriander (cilantro), chili, garlic and onion. Our staff will gladly give you more information about allergens. Don’t be confused by the setting of our menu. Traditionally Georgians do not eat starters first and then mains; the real deal is to order table full of different dishes complementing each other at the same time. If you prefer to have dishes served as starter and main, please inform your waiter.
Origin of meat:
Pork – Finland / EU
Chicken – Finland / Lithuania / Ukraine
Beef – Finland / Uruguay
G*: Glutenfree, BUT we bake continuously in our kitchen. Great deal of our dishes are naturally glutenfree, but because of baking there can be traces of wheat in every food. Thus we cannot guarantee 100% gluten-free meal. All stews and soups come with bread as side dish. For gluten-free diet we recommend to order cornbread from our BREADS-page.
V: Vegan. Georgians traditionally fast several times a year. This has led to marvellous vegan recipes!
L: Lactose-free
M: Milk-free
More information about allergens you will receive from our staff.
GEORGIA – Georgia
– Georgian –
Georgia is a small republic of 4 million people in the Caucasus on the shores of the Black Sea. Georgia's neighboring countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Russia. Most Georgians are Orthodox Christians, and the roots of Christianity date back to the 5th century. Georgia gained independence from the Russian Empire in 1918 and was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1921. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Georgia became independent.

The story behind our name
In 2017, we decided to open our own Georgian restaurant. Out of love and pride for traditional Georgian food, we wanted to bring this culinary culture to our customers as unchanged as possible – Nika is a professional in the kitchen and Sini knows how to serve.
We believed so strongly in our concept that we wanted to give our restaurant a name that was as short as possible, but one that would also suit non-Georgian palates. The Georgian language has an incredible number of consonants, and one of our favorite words is “brdghvnis,” which means the sound made when tearing paper. Therefore, the simply beautiful word “Rioni,” which is a river in Nika’s hometown of Kutaisi, seemed perfect.
All our chefs are Georgian and our recipes are as close to the original as possible (the recipes have been passed down from mother to son). However, we still wanted to complement our logo with the promise: “Authentic Georgian food”, because we will not compromise on tradition in the future.

Helsinki's Rion Restaurant offers meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. Discover our authentic Georgian menu and make a table reservation!
