Nika

Rioni's co-founder, Nika, hails from Georgia's second largest city, Kutaisi, through which the inspiration for the restaurant's name – the Rioni River – also flows. Kutaisi is part of the Imereti region, which is where perhaps the most famous creation of Georgian cuisine, the "Imeruli Khachapuri" cheese bread, takes its name.

Sini

Sini, the co-founder of Rioni, fell in love with Georgia after visiting Kutaisi just in time for the most important celebration of the year, New Year's Eve. Every house always had a "supra" (=celebratory dinner), and there was no shortage of food, wine, or toasts.
